Just thinking

that's me in the corner

REM's haunting song is one side of human life. But corners can also be comfortable — a place that suits you just fine. "I might not be an adventurer or an explorer, but I am proud of what I am — I am a librarian!" This is my favorite quote from the movie The Mummy because — yes, you've guessed it — I am a librarian!

Books are very important to me: biography, philosophy, social sciences, and above all fiction. Whenever I introduce a class to our school library, I point out two major divisions in it: fiction and non-fiction. Then I ask the students what the difference is. And often the answer comes back, "Non-fiction is true, fiction isn't."

Depending on what you mean by "true," to me that answer isn't quite correct. Fiction authors can distill the human experience to its very essence. And there we can find a lot of truth about ourselves and our fellow humans.

us on the web

das jahr 2000 und das ende der welt auf internet
While working on his dissertation at the Theological Faculty of the Zurich University, my husband investigated how end-time groupings used the Internet to spread their apprehensions in advance of the turn of the millennium.
erik's site
The website of my eldest son. He does things differently, going his own artistic way. He took me by the hand when I attempted my first tentative steps in the virtual environment.
timothy davidson family web site
When I miss my grandchildren, I go here for their newest photos.
ZIS library
This is where I work. Not a large school, but a very interesting one since we have students from all over the world.
serving the world
A research project I undertook as part of my masters' program. Working at an international school, I was interested in which ways the cultural traditions of our students affect their library usage.
